Selbstgemachte Brötchen, Milchshakes und Bellinis

So langsam fange ich an auch wirklich urdeutsche Gerichte zu kochen und die deutschen Kochbücher aus dem Regal zu ziehen. Weniger, weil wir es extrem vermissen, sondern mehr, um amerikanischen Gästen was anderes außer Bratwurst und Sauerkraut aufzutischen ;-) Fädlesuppe hat schon mal super geklappt. Wesentlich schwieriger: Brötchen. Ich habe es in Deutschland sooooo genossen zum Frühstück Brötchen zu essen und dachte eigentlich, dass es sooo schwer nicht sein kann. Meine Brötchen waren zwar lecker, aber auch sehr reichhaltig und schwer. Mann hätte damit auch ne 4-köpfige Familie locker durchfüttern können…mit einem Brötchen! Es lag wahrscheinlich an der Hefe…da muss ich noch ein wenig rumprobieren.

Nachdem wir ausreichend gestärkt waren, wollte Malte am Samstag unbedingt zum Buena Vista Park. Also hoch da ;-) Zur Belohnung sollte es dann Mimosas (Prosecco und Orangensaft) geben. Wir haben auch einen echt netten kleinen Italiener gefunden, der nach hinten raus eine Terasse hatte und aus den Mimosas wurden dann Bellini und Bloody Mary. Die Bloody Mary hat Malte aber ziemlich schnell bereut….sie bestand nur aus Vodka und einem Schuss Tomatensaft..

Da Andrea heute kommt (freu! freu! freu!) wollte ich am Sonntag einmal auskegeln, ob man auch ohne Auto/ Fahrrad etc. gut nach Sausalito kommt. Es lebe der Nahverkehr in SF, denn man kann ohne große Probleme mit dem Bus nach Sausalito fahren. Kostet “nur” 10 Dollar mit der Clippercard, wenn man von Downtown aus los fährt. Zurück ging es dann mit der Fähre. Übrigens eine sehr gute Sache, wenn man Alcatraz mal aus der Nähe sehen möchte, aber nihct unbedingt eine Tour machen will. Die Fähre fährt an der Insel auch extra langsam vorbei. Mit der Clippercard kostet die Fähre nur 5 Dollar, ohne 9 Dollar. 

So, schnell noch die Wohnung auf Vordermann bringen, Andrea sitzt schon im Flieger!

Homemade rolls, milk shakes and Bellinis

Slowly I’m starting to cook real German dishes and to use my German cookbooks from the shelf. Less, because we miss it extreme, but more to offer American guests something else besides bratwurst and sauerkraut;-) Fädlesuppe worked great. Much more difficult rolls. I have enjoyed so much the rolls in Germany for breakfast and actually thought that it may not be that difficult to bake them myself. My rolls were indeed delicious, but also very rich and heavy. It was supposed to feed a family of 4 … with a single roll! It was probably due to the yeast … I must try around a bit.

After we had sufficiently strengthened ourselves, Malte wanted to go on Saturday to the Buena Vista Park;-) After the hike, it should be Mimosas (sparkling wine and orange juice) on Haight Street. We have also found a really nice little Italian restaurant, that had a terrace at the backyard and then the Mimosas turned into Bellini and Bloody Mary. The Bloody Mary has Malte but pretty quickly regretted it …. it was literally a shot of vodka with tomato juice ..

Since Andrea is today (freu! looking forward! Looking forward!), I wanted to try on Sunday you can reachSausalito without a car / bike, etc.. Long live the transportation in SF, because you can go without any major problems with the bus to Sausalito. Costs “only” 10 dollars with the Clipper Card, if you drive from downtown. Back we went by ferry. By the way, a very good thing if you want to see Alcatraz times at close range and not necessarily want to do a tour. The ferry passes the island extra slow so you are able to take some pictures. With the Clipper Card the ferry costs just 5, without 9 dollars.

So, quickly I have to bring our apartment in shape, Andrea is already sitting on the plane!

“Summer” in San Francisco

Als ich am Flughafen in Hamburg war und auf meine Wetter-App geschaut habe, war die Freude groß und als wir am Sonntag in SF angekommen sind, war das Wetter auch echt super. Nun ja, ab Montag krochen dann nur noch Nebelschwaden und Wolken überr Twin Peaks in die Stadt, trotz Sonnenschein und Wärme auf meiner App.

Der UPS-Mann hat mich dann wieder aufgeklärt und erzählt, dass so nun mal die Sommer in SF sind. Morgens bedeckt/nebelig, Mittags mit Glück etwas Sonnenschein und ab 15 Uhr dann wieder bedeckt/nebelig. Ich hoffe nur, dass das Wetter die nächsten zwei Wochen etwas besser wird, wenn Andrea da ist. Dann darf es eine Woche auch gerne blöd sein und dann muss es wieder schön sein. Dann sind nämlich Maltes Eltern und meine Mutter da. Und da das Wetter nicht sooo dolle war, wurde dann halt mit den Mädels geskypt. Irgendwie muss ich noch einen Weg finden Judith’s Käseplatten hier rüberzubeamen. Die fährt da immer richtig viele Leckerein auf und ich darbe hier ;-) Naja, nicht wirklich, aber ist halt nicht dasselbe.

Heute ist es dann auch endlich mal wieder sonnig…dafür hatte ich den Nebel dann bei Safeway. Die Dunstabzugshaube im Deli war Schrott und dafür zog es dann einmal komplett durch den Supermarkt. Jeder bekam nen Hustenanfall und man kann heute auch riechen, wer bei Safeway Church/ Market einkaufen war…an dem interessanten Duft von altem Frittenfett und Krabbenchips…lecker!

“Summer” in San Francisco

When I was at the airport in Hamburg and I looked at my weather app, the joy was great because the forecast was really great and as we arrived on Sunday in SF, the sun was shining. Well, then on Monday, only fog and clouds crawled over Twin Peaks in the city, despite the sunshine and warmth forecast on my app.

The UPS man informed me, that’s how the summer in SF is. Morning cloudy / foggy, noon/ early afternoon with luck some sunshine and from 3 pm then again cloudy / foggy. I just hope the weather the next two weeks is a little better if Andrea is here. Then after her vist it can be one week terrible and then the weather must be beautiful again beacuse Maltes parents and my mother will be here. And since the weather was not sooo great, I spent my time just skyping with the girls. Somehow I have to find a way to beam over Judith’s cheese plates here. There are always so many delicacies for the girls and I have to be hungry :-) Well, not really, but it is simply not the same.

Today, it is then finally sunny again … but I had the fog at Safeway. The fan over the oven in the deli didn’t work and so the smoke moved completely through the supermarket. Everybody got a coughing and you can now smell, who went shopping at Safeway Church / Market  … because of the interesting smell of old chip fat and tasty prawn crackers …!

On the way back, I quickly took some pictures;-)
